UNIFE’s UNISIG Position Paper on the Impact of Operational Requirements on the Future of the Railway Sector

UNIFE’s UNISIG Position Paper on ‘The impact of operational requirements on the future of the European railway sector’, provides a state of play, lessons learnt, and way forward in the deployment of the European Traffic Management System. The position paper ultimately recommends that harmonisation of ERTMS technology and principles can increase cost efficiency, and a change of orientation from a national to a European perspective is required.

This paper comes at a key moment for the European railway stakeholders in shaping the European railway system and defining how to achieve the Single European Railway Area, while also seeking to mobilise and re-energise the roll-out of ERTMS programme in the context of target deadlines such as TEN-T, and shifting to FRMCS technology.
