Europe & Rail
For almost 200 years, rail has been a hallmark of European life
Our extensive railway systems carry millions of citizens and the goods they require safely, sustainably and reliably to their destinations every day. Europe’s extensive networks allow people to freely traverse their European Union from Portugal to the West and Estonia to the East, but there is still much work to be done.
The European Rail Supply Industry also employs 400.000 of our fellow citizens, who’s labour allows countless others to access economic, cultural and educational opportunities that underpin modern Europe.

With the European Commission’s Green Deal setting Europe on track to become the first climate neutral continent by 2050,
we all must work together to decarbonise the transport sector – the second largest emitter after energy
UNIFE and its members believe that continued innovation and improvement of rail, the cleanest form of mass transport, must become the backbone of our future mobility paradigm to do so. Together, we can leverage next generation technology that will not only improve European quality of life but also create one that is well poised to reap the benefits of the digital age.
During the European Year of Rail, UNIFE and its members welcome you to look at rail as not just a means from Point A to Point B but a journey from our essential past to a more prosperous, innovative future. By placing rail as the backbone of European mobility, we can create a new multimodal mobility system that provides users with seamless, safe, sustainable and reliable transport options fit for the 21st century.
