UNIFE JOINS THE PARIS PROCESS ON MOBILITY AND CLIMATE (PPMC) INITIATIVE
In support of a stronger voice for sustainable transport at the upcoming UNFCCC COP21 negotiations to be held in Paris this December, UNIFE has become a Gold Sponsor of the Paris Process on Mobility and Climate (PPMC) initiative. This initiative is a platform of organisations that seek a more active role for transport in the UNFCCC negotiations and advocate the need for low-carbon, sustainable transport as part of the global strategy to fight climate change. This initiative is especially relevant in view of the fact that transport emissions are rising compared to other industrial sectors and any solution for a reduction in CO2 emissions must include a more sustainable transport strategy. As rail transport is the most environmentally friendly mode of transport, UNIFE and its members believe that rail transport is a major part of the solution to the challenge of rising global transport emissions. UNIFE looks forward to an active participation in the PPMC and SLoCaT (partnership for Sustainable Low-Carbon Transport) as well as many initiatives surrounding the upcoming COP21 event.
