THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT INDUSTRY COMMITTEE ADOPTS ITS RESOLUTION ON THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE EUROPEAN RAIL SUPPLY INDUSTRY
This morning, Members of the European Parliament Industry Committee (ITRE) adopted, by an overwhelming majority, the European Parliament Resolution on the Competitiveness of the European Rail Supply Industry. With this adoption, the ITRE Committee Members voiced their support of European rail suppliers and the urgency for action at the EU level to help the industry maintain its leadership of the global rail market.
Philippe Citroën, UNIFE Director General, applauded the vote, stating: “in a time of increasingly fierce competition with Asian suppliers, I particularly want to thank Rapporteur MEP Martina Werner and all the Shadow Rapporteurs for their tremendous work on an issue that directly concerns the 400 000 Europeans employed by our industry.”
In addition to highlighting the strategic economic importance and the industrial challenges of the European rail supply industry, the Resolution makes concrete and valuable recommendations in the many policy areas that impact the global competitiveness of European rail supply companies, including: research & innovation, skills and training, internal market, public procurement, trade/access to foreign markets, SME policy, and demand stimulation.
UNIFE anticipates the final adoption of the Resolution during an upcoming European Parliament plenary session. As a second step, UNIFE will proactively engage with the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Member States to convince the institutions turn these timely recommendations of the European Parliament into concrete actions.
