ERRAC – Election of a new chairman from UNIFE

On 16 May, ERRAC (the European Rail Research Advisory Council) met with the rail European Technology Platform (ETP) in a plenary session in Brussels. Keynote speeches from DG MOVE and DG Research were given, focusing on the next European Research Framework Programme (Horizon Europe), as well as the current state of play with the Shift2Rail programme and the potential of a future rail JU (S2R 2.0).

During this plenary meeting, the nomination of the team that will be leading ERRAC for the next 3 years was endorsed by the attendees.

Alberto Parrondo (UNIFE, VP Strategy Ground Transportation Systems, Thales) was elected as the new ERRAC Chairman. He will be supported by Vice-Chairs Carole Desnost (UIC, Head of Research and Innovation SNCF) and Sebastian Stichel (Academia, KTH Sweden).

In his acceptance statement, Alberto Parrando emphasised on the importance of collaboration and teamwork, not only in the rail sector but also within other sectors and expressed his enthusiasm for the future of rail transportation in this manner.
