EU-Japan Partnership Agreement

The UNIFE Members Training on “EU-Japan Partnership Agreement: What’s in it for EU railway suppliers?” took place on 23 June between 10.00 and 11.00 (CEST).

This discussion aimed to understand the scope of the Economic Partnership Agreement signed between the European Union and Japan, which came into force in February 2019. Although not all market access problems have been eliminated and some challenges remain, rail business opportunities can be fostered due to the existence of this trade agreement. During the event, we strived to understand the achievements in public procurement experienced by the railway sector and the services and tools developed by the Japan Tax and Public Procurement Helpdesk that available for European suppliers to help them navigate this important market. Participants also received a brief presentation on the Access2Procurement platform developed by the European Commission‘s DG Trade to further promote the agreement and provide economic operators with all of the information needed to benefit from it.
