EU Industrial Policy
A key objective of UNIFE is to promote a business-friendly environment, not only in the European Single Market but also worldwide for European rail suppliers to be able to be competitive and thrive.
Despite the positive growth forecast for the world rail market, there are several specific industrial concerns that UNIFE discusses in various Committees, including inflation and supply chain disruptions, regulatory burden and reporting requirements, etc.
UNIFE therefore contributes to shaping the EU industrial policy through its various components (Single Market and public procurement, research & innovation, international market access, and skills…) and monitors the growing number of EU initiatives in this respect.
Activities include in particular:
- The Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA): As part of the European Green Deal Industrial Plan (2023), which sets out how the EU will lead the path to climate neutrality by investing in clean technology, UNIFE closely followed the Net-Zero Industry Act. The NZIA aims at creating the necessary conditions to facilitate investments in net-zero technology manufacturing projects.
- The Mobility ecosystem transition pathway: As one of the 14 priority sectoral groupings established by the European Commission in the revised 2020 Industrial Strategy, the Mobility ecosystem transition pathway outlined a way towards the green and digital twin transition with the full support of UNIFE and European rail suppliers.
