Big focus on big data and digitalisation at Scandinavian Rail Developmen Conference
On 22-23 May, UNIFE participated in the Scandinavian Rail Development Conference in Stockholm organised by European Railway Review. Gathering railway undertakings, infrastructure managers, suppliers, and other rail stakeholders from Scandinavian and other Northern European countries, the conference had a strong focus on digitalisation and connectivity.
Participating in a panel discussion on Big Data provided a good opportunity to present our activities in this field, in particular within UNIFE’s Digitalisation Platform (e.g. the ongoing work on data categorisation), and the industry priorities set out in the UNIFE Position Paper on the Digitalisation of Railways here. In particular, UNIFE stressed that access to data (for passengers, operations, assets, etc.) is a key point for further development of the rail sector, and that ownership, access and usage of data must be clarified. There is a need for a consolidated view on data ownership and a sector agreement on data sharing that would establish a good business model, ensuring a win-win situation for all stakeholders. You can find more information about the conference here.
